Loud Talkers and Loud Singers

Today was my third Sunday in my new ward. I feel my timing in moving to this ward was impeccable. Today was the primary program. It was so entertaining/drove me to tears in a few parts. I'd like to focus for a second on the singing. There were the kids that just stood there, the kids that realized they should be singing but didn't know the words so they sang whatever, the kids that sang normally and then there were the loud singers. It took me 3/4 of the program to finally put faces to the loud voices. One, for real, was yelling.

That reminded me of a concert I went to on Monday. David Gray. I enjoyed it but Melissa wasn't impressed with the amount of yell-singing that was going on. I have to agree that it was happening, but for some reason it didn't bother me as much. One thing's for sure, though, if David Gray were LDS when he was younger, he definitely would have fit in.

I wonder if David Gray is a loud-talker. I have definitely met my share of those. Most I haven't heard sing, though. I recently ran into an old loud-talker acquaintance. I pointed him out to my friends by telling them to listen for the voice that's the loudest in the room. It worked.

Loud-talker students have been entertaining to be around. I teach about what kind of voices to use with different activities. No voice, whisper, classroom voice, outside voice. Whisper voice is a foreign concept. I usually gave up teaching that.

Is this hereditary? I'm not sure. I know both the parents of one of my loud-talker students- they don't have tendencies. Maybe it's a recessive trait.

So thank you primary kids for keeping me entertained today.

I think the best part of being in a family ward is being entertained by the kids!
