A Few of My Favorite Things

Traveling. That's one of them. Anywhere and everywhere. Most recent destinations: Park City, Moab, South Africa. While in Park City, my niece asked me if I had a desire to write my own lyrics/music. I told her no, but as I was laying in bed this lazy Sunday morning, I had an idea- my trip to South Africa put to a classic Julie Andrews Song- A Few of My Favorite Things. That's as close as I get to writing my own music.

White sandy beaches and the warm Indian Ocean,
Hiking in Drakensburg and hearing great accents,
Chatting and eating with Zulu ladies,
These are a few of my favorite things!

Schoolchildren streaming down both sides of the road
Seeing green hillsides and animals in Durban
Driving on the left side and good company,
These are a few of my favorite things!

When I think of stomach issues and sleepless time on planes,
I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad!

It's hard to fit all my thoughts in a song. I think the thing I enjoyed the most was getting a glimpse of a different culture. It made me quite grateful for the country we live in and the opportunities I have been given.

ah, a good tribute. Much better than my 10 page ballad of the same subject.

I just played that song in my head and the tune works perfectly. What a great time :)
